'every man woman
child for streets around
butts in, with pots,
brass, copper, aluminium,
and naked children
screaming in the liquid sun,
their highlights polished to perfection,
as the blessing sings
over their small bones.'
Blessing was inspired by the poem by Imtiaz Dharker of the same title which depicts the bursting of a water pipe in a bustling Indian metropolis.
A technical and musical challenge for any contemporary percussion group, this unusual piece can be programmed alongside Steve Reich’s Six Marimbas as a suitable companion piece.
